December 9, 2018

On this second Sunday of Advent, we lit the candle for peace. Pastor Celia delivered a sermon, titled, “Prepare the Way” as a first person narrative from Zechariah, based on the Canticle of Zechariah (Luke 1:68 – 79. The other scriptures for the day were: Malachi 3:1 – 4, Philippians 1:3 – 11, and Luke 3:1 – 6.

December 2, 2018

On this first Sunday of Advent, we began our season of waiting with a sermon based on Luke 21:25 – 36. Pastor Celia delivered this sermon, titled, “Look at the Fig Trees.” The other scriptures referenced for the day were: Jeremiah 33:14 – 16, Psalm 25:1 – 10, and 1 Thessalonians 3:9 – 13.


November 25, 2018

This Sunday is Christ the King Sunday or Reign of Christ Sunday. We celebrate that no matter who is in charge of our nation, Christ reigns over all of creation. Pastor Celia delivered this sermon titled, “God’s Kingdom” referencing 2 Samuel 23:1 – 7. The other scriptures for the day were: Psalm 132:1 – 12, Revelation 1:4b – 8, and John 18:33 – 37.

November 18, 2018

This Sunday we heard the story of Hannah’s prayer at the shrine in Shiloh. Pastor Celia’s sermon was titled, “Hannah’s Promise.” In it she discussed the radical act of prayer and statement of defiance it calls from us. The scriptures for day were: 1 Samuel 1:4 – 20, Psalm 16, Hebrews 10:11- 25, and Mark 13:1 – 8.


November 11, 2018

Today we celebrated our veterans in worship. We discussed the meaning of sacrifice. The scriptures referenced were: Ruth 3:1 – 5; 13 – 17, Psalm 136, Hebrews 9:24 – 28, and Mark 12:38 – 44. What does sacrifice look like? What does it call from us? What examples do we have for sacrifice?

November 4, 2018

Today we celebrated the feast for All Saints. Pastor Celia delivered this sermon entitled, “Did I Not Tell You?” based on the text from Revelation 21:1 – 6a. The other lections for the day were: Isaiah 25:6 – 9, Psalm 24, and John 11:32- 44.


October 28, 2018

Pastor Celia was back in the pulpit this Sunday. The Revised Common Lectionary Scriptures for the day were:  Job 42:1 – 6; 10 – 17, Psalm 34, Hebrews 7:23 – 28, and Mark 10:46 – 52. The title of the sermon was “What do you Want?”

October 21, 2018

Today, the congregation at Lakehills UMC was fortunate to hear visiting Lay Servant Jim Rhoades preach for us. While he referenced several scriptures for us, the two primary scriptures were Exodus 3:1 – 4; 9 – 14 and  Acts 9:3 – 18. The title of the sermon was “God’s 2 x 4 Intervention.”


October 14, 2018

We tried an experiment for our celebration of laity this Sunday. Instead of a traditional sermon, we worked on a video showing some of the ministry that takes place at Lakehills UMC on a weekly basis. The scriptures for the day were: Job 23:1 – 9; 16 – 17, Psalm 22:1 – 15, Hebrews 4:12 – 16, and Mark 10:17 – 31.

October 7, 2018

World Communion Sunday is always a special event at Lakehills UMC. We usually have one combined service for all of the church to gather as one. This sermon was delivered by Pastor Celia Halfacre for just such a gathered group. The title is “The Most Vulnerable Ones.” The primary scripture referenced was Mark 10:2 – 16. The other scriptures for the day were: Job 1:1, 2:1 – 10, Psalm 8, and Hebrews 1:1 – 4, and 2:5 – 12.


September 30, 2018

This was the final week of our stewardship series, “Attitude of Gratitude.” This was a special service of healing and anointing. The sermon was titled, “Healing Through Prayer.” The scriptures referenced were James 5:13 – 20, The Canticle of Remembrance, and Mark 9:38 – 50. Pastor Celia Halfacre and Lay Leader Scott Maderer co-preached this sermon.

September 23, 2018

This week we had the fourth sermon in our Stewardship Series, “Attitude of Gratitude.” This sermon is titled, “Return on Investment” and was delivered by Pastor Celia Halfacre. The scriptures referenced were: Isaiah 5:1 – 11, Psalm 37, Philippians 4:12 – 13, and Matthew 19 – 24.


September 16, 2018

This is the third installment of our worship series, “Attitude of Graditude.” Our lay leader and stewardship chair, Scott Maderer, preached this sermon, “Putting God to the Test,” based on Malachi 3:8 – 12. The other scriptures referenced were Psalm 16:5 – 11, 1 Corinthians 16:1 – 4, Matthew 6:1 – 4.

We’re continuing in our stewardship worship series, “Attitude of Gratitude.” Pastor Celia delivered this sermon, “What do you Say?” based on Luke 17:11 – 19. The other scriptures referenced were Isaiah 12: 1 – 6 and Psalm 100.

Today we began our annual stewardship worship series, “Attitude of Gratitude.” Our Lay Leader, Scott Maderer delivered this first sermon, based on John 6: 1 – 14. The other scriptures referenced were Jonah 2:1 – 9, Psalm 8, and 1 Thessalonians 5:12 – 22. The title of the sermon is “What are you Counting?”

August 19, 2018

This Sunday the United Methodist Women led our worship service. They took time to acknowledge Eric Nelson for this dedicated work with our youth group and helping to form their faith. Their sermon theme was “Joy.” The scriptures referenced were: Isaiah 24:14 – 16, Psalm 100, Philippians 4:4 – 7, and John 15:9 – 17.


August 12, 2018

This Sunday, we’re continuing in our Stump the Pastor sermon series. This week, we looked at Judges 2:14 – 19, Psalm 51, James 4:11 – 12, and Matthew 7:1 – 5. Our question this week was from Matthew 7:1, and the question is: who can judge?

August  5, 2018

This sermon begins our annual summer sermon series, “Stump the Pastor.” The congregation has been invited to submit questions or troubling scriptures to the pastor, and she does her best to explore these in a sermon. The question for this week comes from Matthew 5:48 and asks, can humans ever be perfect. The other scriptures discussed were Ezekiel 36:23 – 32, Psalm 32, 1 John 3:4 – 10, and Matthew 5:43 – 48.


July 29, 2018

This sermon is given by our our Lay servant Jerry Jilek and is entitled, "A Meal with Jesus." Jerry looks through the lens of the feeding of the 5000 to explore the generous providence of God. The scripture lessons for the day are: 2 Samuel 11:1 - 15, Psalm 14, Ephesians 3:14 - 21, and John 6:1 - 21.

Our Lay Leader, Scott Maderer gives us a sermon asking us to consider who's will are we actually seeking. The title of the sermon is "House of the Lord." The scripture lessons for the day are: 2 Samuel 7:1 - 14a, Psalm 89:20 - 37, Ephesians 2:11 - 22, and Mark 6:30 - 34, 53 - 56. 


July 15, 2018

Pastor Celia finishes her sermon series on Samuel with a sermon on holiness looking through the lens of the ark of God. The scripture lessons for the day are: 2 Samuel 6:1 - 5. 12b - 15, Psalm 24, and Mark 6:14 - 29.

Pastor Celia continues her sermon series on the books of Samuel. The primary scripture for this sermon was 2 Samuel 5: 1 - 5; 9 - 10. The tiles of this sermon was, " Who Writes Your Story?" The other scriptures referenced for the day were Psalm 48, and Mark 6: 1 - 13.

This sermon continues Pastor Celia's series on the books of Samuel. The scriptures referenced for this sermon were 2 Samuel 1:1; 17 - 27, Psalm 130, and Mark 5:21 - 43. The title of this sermon was, " Shut Up!"

June 10, 2018

This sermon continues our series on the Samuel Corpus. The primary text for the sermon is 1 Samuel 8:4 - 20. The other scriptur readings were Psalm 138, 2 Corinthians 4:13 - 5:1, and Mark 3: 20 - 35. The sermon title is, "What's Wrong With a King?" and it was given by Pastor Celia.

This Sunday, we began a series that will run off and on all summer based on the books of Samuel. We begin this series with the call of Samuel found in 1 Samuel 3: 1 - 20. The title of this sermon is, "Who Will Teach the Children?" The scriptures for the day were 1 Samuel 3: 1 - 2-, Psalm 139:1 - 6, 13 - 18, 2 Corinthians 4:5 - 12, and Mark 2:23 - 3:6.
